Munich, May 21st 2008 – Anne-Sophie Mutter, in sympathy with the victims and families of victims of the Sichuan earthquake, will donate one of her China concert fees to earthquake disaster relief through the Red Cross. Red Cross and Red Crescent societies from all over the world are supporting the Chinese Red Cross in bringing relief to the earthquake-victims.
Ms. Mutter said: "My heart goes out to the families and friends who have suffered so much personal loss in the Sichuan earthquake. I believe in a world in which all people are bound together by the spirit of humanity. I hope my donation and my music brings both help and solace to the thousands in grief and I hope musicians around the world join me in assisting the relief efforts."
In China, more than 35,000 local Red Cross staff and volunteers have been working with rescue and medical teams to distribute tents, food, water, clothes and medicines around the clock.
The Red Cross and Red Crescent efforts will target the most affected, paying special attention to special health and psycho-social needs of the most vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, pregnant mothers, the displaced and disabled.
